What Kind of a Church is Christ's Church?

A NON-DENOMINATIONAL CHURCH

Christ’s Church is a non-denominational Christian Church affiliated with the Restoration Movement.  We are interested in organizing the church in the 21st century in matters of faith, teaching, and character like the church was when she came into existence in the first century (Acts 2).  We don’t want to customize the church to suit our desires, but to restore the church to her biblical authority.  When the church was established in A.D. 30, and for the first few hundred years, there were no denominations—there was simply “the church” in Jerusalem, Philippi, Ephesus, Antioch, etc.  Did you know it is possible to just be a Christian and a member of the body of Christ—the church?  Sounds simple, huh?  Wouldn’t such a spirit create unity in Christendom if people would just be Christians and let Jesus’ church wear His name?  After all, He said, “Upon this rock I will build My church” (Matt. 16:18).  Does Christ’s Church have a headquarters?  Yes, it is in heaven!

A CHURCH THAT SEEKS TO PLEASE GOD

Scripture teaches our goal in all things must be to please God (2 Corinthians 5:9).  We are not interested in building a church that has as her mission “Pleasing people.”  We don’t take polls by asking people, “What kind of church would you build if you were building a church?”  We ask God, “What kind of church do You want us to build?”  After all, the church belongs to Jesus.  He bought and paid for the church with His life and blood (Acts 20:28).  When the church pleases God, people will be loved, treated correctly, and convicted about their need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Our mission statement is “Loving God and People.”

A CHURCH WHERE YOU CAN CONNECT WITH OTHERS

Perhaps you remember the theme song to Cheers?  “Wouldn’t you like to get away?  Sometimes you want go where everybody knows your name, and there always glad you came.  You wanna be where you can see our troubles are all the same.  You wanna be where everybody knows your name.  You wanna go where people know, people are all the same, you wanna go where everybody knows your name.”  The Care Group is a place where you can connect with other believers and get to know people personally.  Does the word “Care” stand for something?  Yes, it stands for caring!  Groups of 8-15 people meeting in homes around a Bible study provides a place to connect to others in study, prayer, and life—a place to call home.  Connecting people to other people is an innate need and core value of Christ’s Church.   We have Care Groups that meet (September-May).

A CHURCH WHERE EVERYONE IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT

Jesus didn’t just see crowds of people, He saw people in the crowds.  He saw Zaccheus the tax-collector when no one else did or cared (Luke 19:5).  He talked to the Samaritan woman at the well when other men would not have done so according to her (John 4:9).  He challenged the prosecutors of a woman caught in a sinful act to examine their own life before they corrected others (John 8:7).  He asked a ravaged, demon-possessed man, “what is your name” (Mark 5:9)?

Jesus treated everyone the same.  Someone has said, “The ground is level at the foot of the cross.”  At Christ’s Church everyone is equally important regardless of age, ethnicity, social status, education or background because Romans 2:11 says, “For there is no partiality with God.”

A CHURCH WHERE YOUR PAST IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS YOUR FUTURE

We believe God is more concerned with where you are going than where you have been.  We see the church as a hope center, a help center, a healing center.  We understand that every sinner has a past and every saint has a future.  We like the statement, “God can use a cracked vessel if it’s clean.”  We don’t emphasize what you can’t do with an endless list of rules, regulations, and religiosity, but rather what you can do in Christ!  The apostle Paul said, “forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead” (Philippians 3:13).  We are interested in people developing a personal, vibrant, growing, life-changing relationship with Jesus and not religious Pharisees.

A CHURCH THAT IS RELEVANT TO YOUR LIFE

We strive to deliver biblical sermons and lessons on Sunday that will help you on Monday.  We don’t have it all together and neither do we have it all figured out, but we worship a God who does and One who specializes in impossible situations!  We are not asking you to put on a happy face and “come to church.”  We are asking you to come as you are and be willing to let go and let God take the reins of your of life.  A Christian is not just a person who “comes to church” but one who is the church.  Christ’s Church is people loving God and one another.

A CHURCH WHERE CHILDREN ARE IMPORTANT

Some have said, “The youth are the church of tomorrow.”  Actually, they are the church of today also.  Our Christ’s Kid’s Ministry offers a safe place for babies and toddlers as well as children’s worship (k-5th grade) on Sunday’s.  The Children’s Ministry Team guide our children in learning to worship God on their own level during our adult worship.  Children learn to praise Jesus and lessons that are Bible-based and relevant to their age level.
